Embracing Intentional Living: A Path to Purposeful Existence

In a world filled with distractions and constant busyness, it’s easy to lose sight of what truly matters.

A decade ago, I found myself in the ICU drifting in and out of consciousness. The delivery had not gone according to plan. I had just given birth to premature triplets. They were fighting for their lives in the NICU on the floor above. My husband was running between four rooms not knowing which of his family members would survive.

Blessedly, our story has a happy ending.

After enduring the trauma of an extremely difficult birth followed by weeks on end in the NICU, I decided that I wanted to live differently. I didn’t want to float through life anymore. I wanted to be fully present, purposeful, and engaged in my own life. That’s when I stumbled upon an antidote to the chaos; the notion of intentional living.

What is Intentional Living?

Intentional living is a mindful approach to life, where individuals make conscious choices aligned with their values, goals, and priorities. It is about being fully present in each moment. Making deliberate decisions that nurture personal growth. And focusing on what truly matters. Intentional living encourages us to examine our lives, simplify where necessary, and create space for joy.

For me, it manifests in everything from the purchases that I make to the schedule I keep at the office. It touches every decision that I make. Sometimes, it gives me permission to say no when things are not in alignment.

Why It Matters

Intentional living allows us to break free from the autopilot mode of simply going through the motions. By consciously shaping our lives, we regain control and align our actions with our deepest desires. It empowers us to live a life of purpose, authenticity, and fulfillment. Keeps us from being swept away by external influences or societal expectations. It is a reminder that our time on this Earth should be spent in a way that brings us joy.

Benefits of Intentional Living:

  1. Clarity and Focus: Eliminating distractions and honing in on what truly matters, helps you focus energy and resources on activities that align with your purpose.
  2. Increased Fulfillment: Living intentionally will encourage you to let go of what no longer serves you and embrace experiences that nourish their mind, body, and soul.
  3. Personal Growth: By continually evaluating your choices and learning from experiences, you can evolve and become the best versions of yourself.
  4. Stronger Bonds: By consciously carving out quality time for shared activities, open communication, and meaningful conversations, families can build strong, lasting bonds.
